Jie Zhang, PhD

Professor Jie Zhang is a prominent physicist and the President of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology in Shanghai. He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2003, a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2007, a Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2008, an International Fellow of the British Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 2011, Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 2012. In 2015, he was awarded the Edward Teller Medal, the most prestigious prize in the field of inertial confinement fusion and high-energy density physics, by the American Nuclear Society. In 2021, he was awarded the Future Science Prize in physical science, which is one of the most prestigious prizes in China.
Professor Zhang has served as the President of the Chinese Physical Society since 2019. Since 2023, he has served as the President of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology in Shanghai. He was the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2006 to 2017. He served as the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the period of 2017-2018.
